Employers and unions have reached an agreement over the past weekend to prevent the hotel industry strike that had been called for this Easter week.
The agreement, as reported by Comisiones Obreras (CCOO) in a note to the media, consists of three main parts: the prevention of occupational hazards, work and family reconciliation, and the recovery of purchasing power.
From 2026, adjustable beds will be implemented in those hotels that do not have them, as a preventive measure to reduce the occupational hazards to which chambermaids are exposed.
Regarding work and family reconciliation, the elimination of split shifts in those hotels that have 'all-inclusive' services is agreed, and a supplement is implemented to compensate for breaks between working days of less than 12 hours.
This supplement seeks to reduce the use of split shifts by increasing costs for companies and, on the other hand, seeks to compensate those workers who have no choice but to perform their work on a split schedule.
In terms of salary, a rise of 8% in the annual gross has been agreed, consisting of the 2.25% already applied plus an additional 2.75%, and an extraordinary payment of 650 euros in the May payroll (3%).
In addition, in January 2026 there will be another salary increase of 4% on the tables of April 2025, "this increase for January positions us in a situation never seen in the opening of the negotiations of this collective agreement," explain from CCOO. Overall, the increases represent a 10% increase.
"With this agreement, the staff will see how their salaries will increase in a matter of 9 months almost as much as in the last five years. A historical recovery that reflects what we have been demanding about the distribution of the wealth we generate, a matter of social justice," argues the statement from Comisiones Obreras.
"These have been heart-stopping negotiations and ten months of intense mobilizations that will lead to a notable improvement for the staff of the province. The objectives have been achieved without losing a right or taking a step back in our claims. This has been a clear example that when the labor movement unites and fights, it becomes something unstoppable and transformative," the statement adds.
