85% of the tourist homes in Lanzarote, located less than 15 kilometers from a beach, are already booked for the month of August. Only Mallorca, where reservations have already reached 97%, has better occupancy data in the entire country.
The data comes from Rentalia, the vacation platform of idealista.com, which has analyzed the availability calendars of apartments and vacation homes located on the coasts of the country.
Lanzarote is also the second destination in the country where demand is growing the most compared to last year, going from 76% to 85%.
Nationally, 74% of tourist homes near the coast are already booked for the month of August, while at this time last year the forecast for reservations for August 2022 was 80%.
Castellón is the destination where reservations for homes near the beach have increased the most in a year, going from an occupancy level of 63% last year to 72% this year.
After Lanzarote, the third place is for the coast of Cantabria (from 68% to 72%), the coast of Almería (from 74% to 77%), the coast of Pontevedra (from 72% to 74%) and the coast of A Coruña (from 69% to 71%), while the coast of Mallorca remains stable at 97%, as does Asturias (74%).
Reservations are down in many coasts of the country, in Tenerife they are at 63%
The rest of the coasts analyzed in the Rentalia study have a lower level of reservations than a year ago. The largest drop in occupancy level has occurred on the coast of Tarragona, going from 86% to 67%. It is followed by the coast of Girona (from 86% to 73%), the coast of Alicante (from 87% to 76%), the coast of Málaga (from 88% to 80%), the coast of Huelva (from 50% to 43%), the coast of Cádiz (from 80% to 74%) and the coast of Tenerife (from 67% to 63%).
The smallest drops in reservations have occurred on the coast of Menorca, going from 88% to 84%, followed by the coast of the Region of Murcia (from 73% to 71%), the coast of Barcelona (from 75% to 72%) and the coast of Valencia (from 77% to 75%).
According to Almudena Ucha, director of Rentalia, "the decrease in reservation forecasts is motivated by a gap between the time last year when travelers made the decision about their vacations and the time this year. The summer of 2022 was the first without restrictions of any kind after two years of pandemic and the majority of reservations occurred during the first five months of the year".
"This year", adds the director of Rentalia, "the reservation forecasts are conditioned by an unstable climate that will accompany us until the end of spring and will also be affected by the general elections that will take place at the end of July.
Both factors are delaying the decision on the vacation destination, so in the coming weeks we will see how the occupancy level of tourist homes on the coast rises due to all the reservations from travelers who have decided to wait until the last minute", she concludes.
