The crisis in Ceuta is directly impacting tourism in Morocco. In recent days, cancellations of travel bookings to usual destinations such as Marrakech, Agadir, Meknes, or Tangier have multiplied among Spanish travelers, according to recent records from the booking platform Travelgate, provided by the tourism news agency Hosteltur.
When analyzing global tourist activity for travel to Morocco between September 2026 and March 2027, the month of September accounts for the largest volume of the international market, representing 44% of bookings and 51.5% of cancellations.
However, the figures change drastically when isolating the behavior of travelers from Spain. 84.13% of cancellations made by Spanish customers in the last seven days correspond to stays for this month of September.
Thus, while cancellations from other countries are around 51.5% for September, the Spanish rate soars almost 33 points higher.
This difference highlights a sharp, last-minute slowdown in the flow of Spanish visitors to the neighboring country just at the end of the summer season.
In recent years, the number of travelers visiting Morocco had been increasing strongly, and Spanish tourism was precisely the one growing the most, largely thanks to the increase in low-cost air connections between Spain and the neighboring country.
