The Canary Islands received 1,235,965 foreign tourists in August, the highest amount ever recorded in that month in the islands in the entire historical series, representing a 6% increase compared to a year ago, according to data published this Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
The archipelago also added another record in the accumulated number of international visitors from January to August, reaching 10,307,160 people, 4.5% more than in the same period of 2024 and an unprecedented figure so far, as it had never before reached the figure of ten million in the eighth month of a year, according to the latest Tourist Movement Statistics at Borders Frontur.
The United Kingdom remains the most important issuing market. Of the total number of tourists who arrived in the Canary Islands, 35.9 percent came from the British Isles, which represents 551,574 people. Residents in the rest of Spain and Germany accounted for 16.8% and 12.2% of tourists, respectively.
Tenerife was the island that received the highest number of tourists with 618,578, which represents 4 out of every 10 tourists who arrived. It is followed by Gran Canaria (23.4%), Lanzarote (19.1%) and Fuerteventura (15.6%).
Nearly half of the tourists who arrived in the Canary Islands did so with a pre-arranged tour package, that is, with a service that includes at least transportation and accommodation and that has an indivisible price. Specifically, 48.6 percent of tourists arrived with this contracted service.
