The Tías City Council has concluded its presence at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) held these days in Madrid, promoting Puerto del Carmen and the municipality under the premises of "modernization and sustainability."
The mayor, José Juan Cruz, and the Councilor for Tourism, Mame Fernández, presented at the stand of the Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands (Amtc) a complete visual document with the description of their most relevant plans. Among them, the III Plan for Modernization and increased competitiveness of Puerto del Carmen stands out; the Commercial Dynamization Plan of Puerto del Carmen; the Tourism Intelligence System; the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan and, finally, the Action Plan for Climate and Sustainable Energy and the Revitalization of the gastronomic cultural heritage, an intentional look at the roots of Tías.
From the City Council they point out that Puerto del Carmen is "the main tourist destination of Lanzarote", placing itself at "57% of the total". In fact, they add that it hosts 149 of the 260 existing accommodation establishments on the island, and receives 962,276 visitors per year, with an average stay of 8.15 days and an average occupancy in the establishments of 80%.
The objective of the government team, as detailed by the City Council, is to "ensure the competitiveness of the tourist area through public and private investment with two main objectives: the improvement of public and private infrastructures and the sustainability of the supply of products and services."
The City Council adds that it has already "advanced in the execution of numerous works aimed at improving infrastructure, such as the creation of the El Fondeadero School Restaurant; the improvement of energy efficiency, such as the installation of LED lighting in streets and avenues; the improvement of the integral water cycle, with the upcoming expansion of the Tías WWTP; the improvement of Mobility, such as the upcoming pedestrian and bicycle network; and the improvement of services, such as the installation of charging points for electric vehicles."
