The factor that most influences tourists visiting Lanzarote when choosing transportation during their stay is comfort, followed by price. More than double the number of tourists in Lanzarote opted for comfort in the second quarter (450,087) compared to the 212,503 who chose a lower price.
This is according to the latest Survey on Tourist Expenditure, prepared quarterly by the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC). Rental vehicles were the most chosen means of transport by tourists.
6.3% of tourists who visited the Canary Islands during the second quarter of 2026 experienced some difficulty related to transport during their stay. The main difficulties were linked to the punctuality and organization of public services. The most cited problem by visitors was confusing or insufficient information, followed by the perception of inadequate public transport schedules. Likewise, delays or cancellations represented a significant difficulty.
91.7% of visits were for holidays, leisure, and entertainment, 2.7% for business and professional reasons, and 5.6% for other personal reasons such as visiting family or friends, education, or health reasons.
Tourists stayed mainly in collective establishments (hotels 59.8%, apartments 16.8%). They also stayed in private accommodation, such as rented housing or rooms from individuals (12.8%), accommodation with friends or family, or their own homes or other private accommodation (7.1%).
The average stay of tourists is 8.4 days. The longest average stay was by residents of Switzerland, with 12.6 days, and residents of the rest of the national territory had the shortest average stay, with 5.5 days.
47.2% of tourists visiting the Canary Islands did so with a contracted package tour, meaning a service that includes at least transport and accommodation and has an indivisible price.
38% of tourists who traveled to the Canary Islands during the second quarter of 2026 did not consider another destination when choosing their trip. The main destinations considered by the rest of the tourists were: another Canary Islands destination, another destination within the rest of the national territory, and Greece.
72.2% of tourists have visited the Canary Islands previously. The average rating of general satisfaction with the trip to the Canary Islands is 8.8.
