Playa Blanca is the most sought-after destination in the Canary Islands by tourists, but also the most expensive, with an average price of 207 euros per night, according to a study by the Holidu vacation rental search engine.

Although the southern area of Playa Blanca has always been characterized by attracting a large number of tourists, both national and international, this year it has been crowned as the most sought-after Canary Island destination by travelers, followed by Maspalomas, known for its coastal dunes, and Corralejo, with its kilometer-long beaches.

Along with this high demand, it should also be noted that Playa Blanca is the most expensive destination in the entire archipelago, especially in the high season of summer, being the only area in the Canary Islands that exceeds the barrier of 200 euros per night (207 euros). It is followed by Guía de Isora with 186 euros per night and Puerto del Carmen, also in Lanzarote, with a price of around 178 euros.

Where are the cheapest vacation rentals?

On the other side of the spectrum are the most affordable vacation destinations in terms of accommodation, such as Costa de Antigua with an average of 64 euros, Puerto del Rosario with 65 euros per night and San Marcos at 69 euros.

In addition, the Canary Islands rank first among the cheapest destinations to enjoy summer vacations. If the data at the island level is taken into account, La Gomera is the most economical of all, with an average price of 88 euros per night, followed by El Hierro, with an average cost of 89 euros. The list is closed by La Palma, at 96 euros per night of accommodation.

Fuerteventura and Tenerife occupy the fourth and fifth place with prices ranging between 115 and 116 euros. At the end of the list are the most expensive destinations, such as Lanzarote (165 euros), Mallorca (322) and Formentera (387).

The Canary Islands is the most convenient destination for last-minute bookings

The Atlantic archipelago is also the best option for those latecomers who do not have a reservation for the summer, as the study points out that, so far, in general terms it has an occupancy of 58%.

Specifically, La Gomera still has only 48% occupancy, followed by La Palma and Gran Canaria with 50%. In third place is Tenerife with 53%, El Hierro 63% and Fuerteventura reaching 64% of the total for this season. However, the situation changes in Lanzarote, where its most demanded areas by tourists, Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca, are practically without availability for this season, with 24% and 14% free respectively.

“The current figures are positive news for the reactivation of tourism in the Canary Islands. Today we can say that the vacation rental market is once again in good health on the eve of the summer season,” says Esteban Farías, spokesman and communications for Holidu.

Finally, the study highlights that the Canary Islands is also the most convenient destination regardless of the season, as its prices vary only 4% (117 euros high season and 113 euros low season).

“The price adjustments in the archipelago are mainly due to the strong demand that vacation home owners are receiving,” says Paula Martinez, sales director of the vacation rental platform Iberia Bookiply. “In the case of the Canary Islands, prices are likely to remain, however the recommendation is to book in advance to avoid paying extra.”
