Opportunity of free courses to increase the competitiveness of tourism in Lanzarote

The Tourism Federation of Lanzarote launches an ambitious program with more than 60 training courses for companies, as well as for private and public professionals

The Tourism Federation of Lanzarote (FTL) is immersed in the development of the Plan of Business Training “Lanzarote, the energy of the earth”, which includes more than 60 training actions aimed at companies and professionals linked to tourism. 

The objective of the plan is to improve the competitiveness of the sector, boost innovation, sustainability and enhance the experience of the tourist in the destination.

The initiative, framed within the Tourism Sustainability Plan 2021 of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, has funding from the Secretariat of State for Tourism of the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, of the Government of Canary Islands and of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, to strengthen the training of the business and professional fabric of the sector.

The actions are structured into three main areas of action: sustainability, innovation, and customer experience, key areas for the evolution of Lanzarote's tourism model. The plan also incorporates a training program structured by competency levels —basic, intermediate, and advanced— adapted to the different professional profiles of the sector, from entry-level staff, to middle management and executive teams.

The training plan is also open to people without previous experience in tourism who wish to train, acquire new professional skills and join the main industry of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, thus favoring the generation of employment and the qualification of local talent.

Among the training actions already planned and under development, specialized courses stand out in food waste management, and programs of marketing and tourism promotion linked to sustainability.In the area of improving the experience of internal and external customers: basic or sectoral operations, team management, talent development, linguistic competencies: tourism English, German and French.

The offer is completed with training in digital skills, creation of tourist experiences supported by artificial intelligence and neuromarketing, prevention of labor absenteeism, as well as specific actions to reinforce the digitalization of tourist companies, a key tool to optimize management and improve the visibility of the destination in the online environment.

The plan also includes training aimed at public services with direct impact on the tourist experience. In this area, the Tourist Accessibility course scheduled for May is framed.

Furthermore, in collaboration with the Yaiza City Council, actions have been developed on customer service aimed at the taxi sector, where three training groups have already been taught, contributing to raising the quality of service and the visitor's experience from their arrival at the destination.

On the other hand, they have also finished specific courses in cooking and assistant waiter, strengthening professional qualification in key areas of the tourism value chain.

The president of the Tourism Federation of Lanzarote, Susana Pérez, underlines that “this plan represents a strategic commitment for the entire tourism value chain, for the training of our business fabric and professional, as well as public services, providing it with tools to face the challenges of current tourism and strengthen Lanzarote's competitiveness as a destination committed to sustainability, innovation and excellence in customer experience”.

With this training program, the FTL "continues working alongside public institutions to strengthen the capacities of the island tourism sector, promoting a more sustainable, innovative, and prepared development model for the challenges of the future".
