The Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism of Spain, Reyes Maroto, confirmed this Thursday at FITUR that the Government of Spain will present "shortly" the 2023 National Tourism Plan dedicated "to sun and beach destinations to thank the contribution to the destinations that opened Spain to the world.”
The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, present together with the Councilor for Tourism Ángel Domínguez at the meeting held at FITUR between the head of Tourism and representatives of the Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands (AMTC) and the Alliance of Tourist Municipalities of Sun and Beach (AMT) considers “more than fair a greater investment in destinations that offer public services to millions of visitors every year.”
Óscar Noda maintains that they have been and will continue to be "being supportive" and that is why they demand "greater resources for modernization and digital transformation of tourism, adding European resources, and the Ministry also understands that we must develop alternative products, emotional experiences, that can continue to generate wealth. In Yaiza we have projects to execute.”
The southern mayor positively values “the union of the municipalities that are part of the AMTC because the common effort between administrations allows not only to expose common problems, but also to find solutions from individual experience and seek financial aid from the governments of the Canary Islands and Spain and from Europe.”
Already last December, the Yaiza government proposed to the Municipal Plenary a motion claiming that the National Tourism Plan in 2023 would be for sun and beach. At that time, the mayor recalled that “tourism is a sector of transformation that needs to improve spaces and infrastructures, develop new products that diversify our offer and implement technological tools to be more efficient and competitive.”
The National Tourism Plan includes European Next Generation funds and is presented as an ambitious exercise in public investment. The minister also confirmed to the mayors that the Plan will be presented outside the capital, of course, in a sun and beach destination.
