Lanzarote once again marks a new record for average daily tourist spending in the Canary Islands, reaching 198.64 euros per tourist per day during the first quarter of 2026, positioning itself above Tenerife, with 187.89 euros, and Gran Canaria, with 183.93 euros. The figures have been published by the Lanzarote Data Center based on ISTAC Statistics.

The island thus accumulates three quarters with the highest spending among the Canary Islands. Between October and December of last year, tourist spending in Lanzarote amounted to 197.2 euros, while between July and September it was 196.27 euros per tourist per day, which was at the time the highest figure for any island since the beginning of the historical series in 2010 to 2025.

The president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, values this data as “a clear sign of the strength of the destination and Lanzarote's capacity to generate greater economic value per visitor, for the benefit of the entire island and its productive fabric”.

The president adds that “these results reinforce the external promotion strategy that we have been developing from SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, aimed at positioning the island as a differentiated and high-value destination, capable of competing on quality, identity, sustainability, and experience, and not solely on the volume of visitors”.

Spending on purchasing goods increases by more than 50%

Furthermore, the average daily spending in Lanzarote registers a growth of 6.8% compared to the same period in 2025, a positive trend driven especially by the increase in spending on accommodation, which grows by 7.9%, on leisure, which increases by 17.5%, and on purchasing goods, which experiences a rise of 52.6%.

For the CEO of SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, Héctor Fernández, “these indicators reflect a very significant evolution in visitor behavior, with a tourist experience increasingly linked to the consumption of activities, commerce, leisure, gastronomy, culture, and complementary offerings”.

Fernández points out that “the growth in spending in areas such as leisure and the purchase of goods is especially relevant because it shows that tourist activity is generating impact beyond accommodation. We are talking about spending that is better distributed across the territory and that reaches small and medium-sized enterprises, shops, services, and products linked to the local economy more directly”.
