The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, and the president of the Network of European Competitive and Sustainable Tourism Region (NECSTouR) entity, Yolanda de Aguilar, have agreed within the framework of Fitur 2023 to sign an agreement to organize and hold conferences on sustainability in the tourism sector on the Island.
Following Lanzarote's accession to the NECSTouR network last year, on this occasion the island reinforces its position in this Association of European Regions for Sustainability and Competitiveness with an agreement that will achieve a smarter and more sustainable approach to tourism development.
Dolores Corujo pointed out that "the main objective of this collaboration is to have conferences on the Island that revolve around economic, social and environmental sustainability, as a crucial engine of the competitiveness of tourist destinations."
The president also highlighted the idea of "betting on quality to the detriment of quantity in the tourism sector, so that this initiative contributes to improving the general level of this area and the professionals that make up all branches of tourism to attract visitors with greater purchasing power to a more exclusive destination."
The parties will cooperate so that the conferences are held in Lanzarote during the month of March 2023, whose target audience will be the authorities of management and/or promotion of local, regional and European tourism, universities, research institutes, representatives of tourism companies, sustainable tourism associations and any professional in the sector who works proactively and in collaboration to address the challenges of tourism development, identifying, capturing and sharing solutions of best practices in terms of sustainability.
