The tourist apartments in Lanzarote had the highest occupancy rate in Spain during the past month of January, specifically covering 59.6% of their places, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
In addition, the average stay of travelers who chose a tourist apartment on the island of Lanzarote exceeded 8 days in duration, while last year it remained at 7.8 days.
Among the autonomous communities, Canary Islands was the preferred destination in apartments in the first month of 2024, with more than 2.3 million overnight stays and an increase of 2.3% compared to January 2023.
In the country as a whole, overnight stays in extra-hotel tourist accommodation (apartments, campsites, rural tourism accommodation and hostels) increased by 5% in January compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 6.2 million, which means that they have already accumulated five consecutive months on the rise, according to data from the INE.
The National Institute of Statistics revealed this Friday that those of residents decreased by 1.4%, while those of non-residents increased by 7.3%, and the average stay was 5.3 overnight stays per traveler.
In tourist apartments they grew by 4.2%; in campsites, 6.5%, in hostels, 25.4%; those of rural tourism decreased by 7.3%.
With regard to prices, the Tourist Apartment Price Index (IPAP) rose by 9% in January compared to the same month of 2023, while that of campsites increased by 0.7% and that of Rural Tourism by 4.3%.
