Historic record of British tourism in Lanzarote in the first quarter: exceeds 400,000 arrivals

The data contrasts with the fall in April and the forecasts of the tourism employers' association, which anticipate fewer reservations from the United Kingdom compared to last year for the coming months.

Never before had Lanzarote received as many British tourists as between January and March of this year when a total of 400,431 people from airports located in the United Kingdom landed on the island, according to data provided.

The figure of British arrivals in the first quarter of 2026 represents 30,000 more tourists than during the same period of the previous year when just under 370,000 people landed from the United Kingdom.

Compared to the first quarter of 2019, the year before the covid 19 pandemic, it is 100,000 more tourists; at that time, nearly 298,000 people arrived from British airports.

The figure contrasts with the fall in April and the forecasts from the tourism employers' association, which anticipate fewer bookings from the United Kingdom compared to last year for the coming months.

While travel agencies nationwide highlight that European tourists prefer Spain for security over the Middle East, in Lanzarote, employers fear that the rise in fuel prices is making connections with the United Kingdom more expensive, slowing down the pace of bookings for the coming months.

Arrivals from Germany also increased during the same period. There were 75,000 people arriving from German airports compared to 68,000 from the previous year, although between January and March 2019, they had exceeded 82,000 travelers.

In contrast, mainland Spanish tourism, which totaled just over 47,000 arrivals in the first quarter, fell compared to the same period last year when there were more than 52,000 passengers, a figure very similar to that obtained between January and March 2019.

Regarding the rest of nationalities, which ISTAC does not break down in this statistic, between January and March, 10,000 more tourists arrived in Lanzarote than last year. That is, about 256,000 travelers compared to 246,000 last year. Between January and March 2019, tourists of other nationalities totaled just under 200,000 travelers.
