Each international tourist spent 90% more in Madrid than in the Canary Islands in April

Despite the archipelago registering a total international tourist expenditure of almost 2,000 million euros in April, the daily expenditure per person was 11% lower than the Spanish average

Foreign tourists spent a total of 10,826 million euros in Spain during the month of April, according to the latest tourist expenditure survey by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

The Canary Islands accounted for 17.8% of the total expenditure, which is equivalent to 1,925 million euros, and was the second autonomous community with the highest total expenditure.

In Catalonia, the first in total expenditure, it was 18.4% (1,997 million) and in Andalusia, the third, 15.9% (1,117 million). Next were the Balearic Islands, which achieved 14.6% (1,584 million) and Madrid, with 14.3% (1,557 million).

However, with regard to the average daily expenditure per person, the highest expenditure occurred in the Community of Madrid, where it reached 318 euros, which is equivalent to 90% more than the individual expenditure in the Canary Islands, where it remained at 168 euros.

After Madrid, the highest expenditure per person occurred in Catalonia, where each international tourist spent an average of 215 euros.

The third and fourth place went to the Balearic Islands (196 euros) and Andalusia (173 euros), while the Spanish average reached 187 euros.
