Rueda de prensa de Fernando Clavijo (9)

The regional president, Fernando Clavijo, stressed this Thursday that the law regulating the activity of tourist homes on the islands, approved on November 12, "is not the responsibility of the Minister of Tourism, Jessica de León," who has been attacked for it, "but of the Canary Islands Government."

As announced by the vice-president of the Canary Islands Executive, Manuel Domínguez (PP), Minister De León, from his party, has suffered attacks with stones against her house and car and all kinds of threats and insults on social media during the processing of this regulation, for which some people have called to "burn her alive."

"We have condemned it. We have been respectful; this has been happening since the summer. She has not wanted to make it public at any time, but it is evident that the use of violence and intimidation is unacceptable in a democracy," Clavijo told journalists before participating in a conference on mobility in Macaronesia.

The president assured that, both privately at the time and now publicly, he has expressed his full support and backing to De León.

"This is a bill from the Government of the Canary Islands and the Parliament of the Canary Islands, which has approved it. One can agree more or less, but intimidation and violence are never justifiable under any concept or in any sphere. Therefore, we condemn it, and she has all my personal support as president of the Government. And that of everyone," he added.
