Canary Islands receive less foreign tourism between January and August than last year

In August, the number of visitors increased, as did revenue, although the average stay decreased

The number of foreign tourists who visited Canary Islands increased by 0.3% in August compared to the same month of 2025, reaching 1.24 million, and the revenue generated by the sector grew by 3.1%, to a total of 2,296 million euros, according to data published this Friday by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

In the cumulative total of the first eight months of the year, the Canary Islands received 10.26 million foreign tourists, 0.46% less than in the same period last year.

The average spending per tourist in the islands in August was 1,851 euros, 2.7% higher than in July of the previous year, and even more so the daily spending of each of them rose by 7.6%, to reach 224 euros, reveals the latest Tourist Expenditure Survey prepared by the INE.

On the contrary, the average stay of foreign visitors in the Canary Islands decreased by 4.5% and stood at 8.3 nights.

In Spain, the total spending of international tourists who visited the country in August increased by 9.2% compared to a year ago and reached 17,838 million euros, while their average daily spending increased by 1.9%, to 202 euros.

Spain received 12.3 million international tourists in August, 9.2% more than in the same month of 2025, according to the INE in its latest Tourism Movement Statistics at Borders.
