Between January and June 46.56 million tourists entered Spain, 4.6% more than a year earlier, and spent 63,836 million, 7% more, figures that month after month return to record highs.
The surveys on non-resident arrivals (Frontur) and associated spending (Egatur), from the National Statistics Institute (INE), reflect once again that the trend of spending growth continues to outpace arrivals, an indicator of "higher quality" tourism, according to the sector.
In June alone, 9.7 million tourists arrived in Spain from other countries (2.9% more) with a spending volume of 13,579 million euros, 4% more. The United Kingdom was the main country of residence, with almost 2.3 million tourists and an increase of 6.8% compared to June 2025.
From Germany, 1.2 million arrived (5.9% less) and from France, close to one million (1.7% less). The main issuing countries in the first six months were the United Kingdom (with more than 9.3 million and an increase of 4.3%), Germany (with almost 5.7 million and a decrease of 1.1%), and France (with more than 5.6 million, 1% more). The majority length of stay among tourists was four to seven nights, with almost 4.9 million and an annual increase of 1.9%.
Arrivals in the Canary Islands decrease
The Balearic Islands were the main destination for tourists in June, with 23.3% of the total. They were followed by Catalonia (20.8%) and Andalusia (15.7%).
0.6% more tourists arrived in the Balearic Islands than in June 2025. The number of foreigners visiting Catalonia increased by 1.4%, and 7.4% more came to Andalusia. In the cumulative total for the first six months of 2026, the communities that received the most tourists were Catalonia (9.6 million and an increase of 3.5% compared to the same period in 2025), the Canary Islands (7.8 million and a decrease of 0.6%), and Andalusia (7.3 million, 7.9% more).
The average spending per tourist was 1,393 euros, with an annual increase of 1.1%. For its part, average daily spending grew by 0.7%, to 211 euros. The main issuing countries in terms of spending level in June were the United Kingdom (with 20.6% of the total), Germany (11.1%), and France (6.5%).
In the Canary Islands, spending per tourist stood at 1,450 euros, representing a 3% increase compared to last year.
The spending of resident tourists in the United Kingdom increased by 7.1% year-on-year, that of those from Germany remained unchanged, while that of those from France decreased by 6.3%. The highest average daily spending per tourist was recorded in the "rest of the world" aggregate (which includes Asian countries and the Middle East, among other geographies), with 256 euros per person and an increase of 3.8%. According to INE figures, by autonomous communities, the highest average daily spending per person in June was recorded in Andalusia (288 euros, although with a drop of 12.5%), followed by the Balearic Islands, with 267 euros (6.4% increase).
