Arrecife will premiere this Sunday, July 27, the 2025/2026 cruise pre-season with the call of the British cruise ship Ventura, with 3,000 passengers. This large ocean liner from the company P&O Cruises, of the Grand class, is making a 14-day cruise through ports in the Canary Islands, Portugal and the Iberian Peninsula. The trip, which started on July 19, will end on August 2 in Southampton, southern England.
After visiting Arrecife next Sunday, it will set sail at 6:00 p.m. for Cádiz, with a journey of almost two days of navigation. This aspect will allow the 3,000 passengers and almost 1,000 crew members to increase their spending in Lanzarote.
The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, a member of the Board of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, has stated that "the forecasts for the 2025/26 cruise season are very encouraging for the city and the local economy." During the first quarter of 2025, Arrecife has received 347,530 passengers, with an increase of nearly 20%. The mayor points out that "this second half of the year will be very good," according to the forecasts handled by the Port Authority of Las Palmas.
In addition, the capital will become a base port for several shipping companies in their circuits through the Canary Islands in the coming months, which will allow - emphasizes the mayor - "to increase income per tourist traveling on cruises."
For her part, the Councilor for Tourism and Commerce, Eli Merino, celebrates that "several new businesses are finalizing their opening in the Arrecife Open Commercial Area, focused on cruise tourism, which is acting as an economic engine for the sectors of small commerce, hospitality, excursions and transportation, and leisure."
Eli Merino has announced that several shipping companies, including Aida, "have repositioned their initial winter cruises in the Canary Islands in the Persian Gulf area due to the situations that are being experienced in those countries due to the war tensions in Iran."
