Arrecife will receive more than 7,500 cruise passengers between October 16 and 19 with the stopovers of the Azura, Ambience, and Ventura cruise ships.
According to the city council, these moorings “will allow Arrecife businesses to benefit from the presence of more than 7,500 tourists who travel on these large cruise ships.”
The first of the cruise ships, the Azura, coming from Tangier with 3,000 passengers, docked last Thursday, October 16, at the new terminal on the Naos Cruise ship dock.
The second cruise ship, Ambiance, with 1,400 tourists, arrives this Friday, October 17th, in Arrecife from the London port of Tilbury, after making a stop in Vigo.
A third cruise ship will arrive on Sunday, October 19th. This is the Ventura, "a regular in the city of Arrecife during the autumn and winter season" with a capacity of just over 3,000 passengers.
According to the city council, "several commercial establishments in the Arrecife Open Commercial Zone are opening on Sundays" to serve cruise ship passengers arriving on Sundays.
The city council explains that the commercial and hospitality sectors are informed months in advance about the calls in Arrecife through the cruise forecasts published by Turismo Arrecife with data from the Port Authority of Las Palmas.
The Arrecife council considers that "one of the advantages of the port area of Arrecife is that it is the closest to the north-western coast of Morocco, and also the closest to the routes through the European continent, being a preferred stop for cruises that make circuits between Europe, Morocco and the Canary Islands."
