The port of Arrecife has received a total of 400,669 passengers (14.4%) and 351,411 cruise passengers, a 16.6% more (58,000), according to data released by the Port Authority of Las Palmas.
Likewise, the port of the capital of Lanzarote has experienced a significant growth in the number of ships (11.3%) and in the total tonnage (17.2%), with an increase of 3.6 million tons.
In total, the ports that make up the Port Authority (Las Palmas, Arrecife, Puerto del Rosario, Salinetas and Arinaga) have moved 19.6 million tons of goods between January and July, which represents an increase of 16.5% compared to the same period of 2024.
In July alone, 3.05 million tons were transported, 22% more year-on-year, confirming the strength of the port system.
Passenger traffic, although it decreased by 8% in July (15,985 fewer travelers than in 2024), maintains a positive behavior in the annual accumulated: 2,065,741 people have already passed through the ports of the province, which represents an increase of 10.5%, that is, 196,887 more passengers than last year.
Cruise tourism and international transit grow
Despite the fact that in July it was reduced by 2% compared to the same month of 2024, in the annual calculation the cruise passengers already reach 1.19 million, with an increase of 23.7% (229,000 more than in 2024).
Regarding the type of goods, foreign trade continues to lead the growth with 21.5% and more than 11.8 million tons. Liquid bulk (mainly fuels) also experiences a strong increase of 25%, exceeding 6.3 million tons. For its part, containerized general cargo grows by 8.6%, reaching 9.5 million tons.
As the main engine of the system, the Port of Las Palmas (Gran Canaria) maintains its strength. Until July it registers an increase of 6.3% in passengers, with more than 1.35 million travelers, while cruise passengers reach 556,732 (21.5%). In the maritime field, ships grow by 2.1% and their total tonnage increases by 5.3%, which reflects the arrival of ships of greater size and capacity.
For its part, Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura) is the one that stands out the most in relative terms. It registers a growth of 27% in passengers, with 310,757 travelers, and an increase of 38.9% in cruise passengers, with 285,775. The increase of 38.6% in the number of ships and 41.4% in total GT also stands out, with more than 6 million additional.
In the case of the Port of Arinaga (Gran Canaria) it maintains a positive behavior, with a stable increase in goods that reinforces its role as an industrial port complementary to that of the capital.
Finally, the Port of Salinetas (Gran Canaria) is consolidated as a strategic enclave for energy traffic, with a growing weight in the supply and distribution of fuels in the archipelago.
