Arrecife received more than 70,000 cruise passengers in January, 13% more than last year

At this rate, 2024 will be the year in which this sector, whose recovery has been much slower than in aviation, exceeds pre-pandemic figures.

Tourists returning to their cruise ship in the port of Arrecife

The port of Arrecife received 71,656 cruise passengers last January, 13.1% more than those who arrived in the same month last year, according to the Lanzarote Data Center based on figures from the Las Palmas Port Authority.

At this rate, cruise passenger arrivals in 2024 will far exceed pre-pandemic numbers in a sector that has recovered much more slowly than aviation.

In 2019, 520,000 cruise passengers arrived in Arrecife, figures that obviously decreased sharply during the pandemic years, but also took much longer to recover than the data of tourists arriving in Lanzarote by air.

In fact, in 2022, when the pandemic had already ended, 336,281 cruise passengers arrived.

The year 2023 was really the year of recovery, with 504,805 cruise passengers counted, much higher figures than the previous year, but still not reaching pre-pandemic levels.
