Arrecife received more than 40,000 cruise passengers in October, 14.7% more than last year

In the first ten months of the year, the ports of Las Palmas, Arrecife, Puerto del Rosario, Arinaga, and Salinetas have handled 30.6 million tons of total traffic, 16% more than last year.

In the specific case of the Port of Arrecife, discharges have exceeded 1.6 million tons between January and October, an 8.7% increase compared to 2024. 

The president of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Beatriz Calzada, pointed out that "the evolution of cruise traffic, with an increase of almost 17% in passengers and more than 40% in calls, reflects the confidence of shipping companies in our ports and in the Canary Islands destination".

In October, 40,876 cruise passengers arrived in Arrecife, a 14.7% increase compared to the same month last year. 

In the cumulative total up to October, the ports of the Port Authority registered 2,664,487 travelers, 4.43% more than in the same period of 2024. Of these, 1,336,621 correspond to cruise passengers, representing a growth of 16.82%.

This boost in cruise tourism is also reflected in the number of calls, as the Port Authority's ports have accumulated 596 calls in 2025, compared to 424 in the same period last year, representing an increase of 40.57%

In parallel with the evolution of passenger traffic, logistics activity maintains a solid pace, with a total merchandise traffic reaching 28,173,386 tons, 17.46% more than in 2024. Foreign trade advances 24.16%, up to 16,987,836 tons, while national cabotage adds 11,185,548 tons, an increase of 8.56%.

General cargo, both conventional and containerized, totals 19,111,028 tons, an increase of 15.07%. Within this category, conventional cargo reaches 5,051,687 tons, representing a growth of 22.61%, and containerized cargo amounts to 14,059,343 tons, showing an increase of 12.58%.

Bulk cargo also shows outstanding performance, totaling 9,062,355 tons, up 22.84%. Within this category, liquid bulk reaches 8,682,231 tons, growing by 23.25%, while solid bulk adds up to 380,124 tons, with an increase of 14.24%.

Transit operations reinforce their strategic role within the port system, with 15,217,437 tons and an increase of 25.88%, confirming the Port Authority's ports' capacity to attract international traffic and act as logistics platforms in the Atlantic.

Regarding **container** traffic, the port system registers 1,297,357 TEUs, 15.63% more than in 2024. Transit operations linked to this traffic amount to 794,649 TEUs, representing an increase of 25.12%, consolidating the port complex's specialization in international scale containers.
