The port of Arrecife received a total of 301,273 cruise passengers between January and July 2024, compared to 260,964 in the same period in 2023, 15.4% more, according to official statistics from the Port Authority of Las Palmas.
During the months of June and July, the number of passengers disembarking in Arrecife doubled compared to the same months of last year, providing an indicator that reflects that the Canary Island route for ocean liners is also positioned in the summer months.
Until now, the cruise season concluded at the end of April. However, Arrecife received more than 22,500 passengers between July and July, doubling the figures from the previous year.
The mayor of Arrecife and member of the Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Yonathan de León, has remarked that "the city enjoys the preference of shipping companies on their routes through the Canary Archipelago, due to the high level of satisfaction shown by its passengers when they disembark on the island of Lanzarote, making the island of Lanzarote where tourists make the highest expenditure at the destination."
Thus, the mayor was pleased that "Arrecife is immersed in a process of transformation of the maritime front, with the creation of the new pedestrian promenade next to El Reducto beach, and the current execution of works in the surroundings of the promenade next to La Arena beach (near the Los Mármoles dock) that will make the city more comfortable, accessible and attractive among the passengers who stay in the city during their hours of stopover in Lanzarote."
For her part, the Councilor for Tourism and Commerce, Eli Merino, has highlighted that "the City Council is signing collaboration agreements with the entity that will manage the new passenger terminal in Arrecife from next winter to promote the capital among passengers."
