Between January and October of this year, Arrecife has received 373,847 cruise passengers, which is equivalent to an average growth of 10.1% compared to last 2023, according to sources from the capital city council.

At the recent tourism fair in London, the WTM, the mayor Yonathan de León and the Councilor for Tourism, Eli Merino, agreed with executives of shipping companies to "turn the capital of Lanzarote into the nerve center of cruises in its winter seasons, promoting the movement of cruises at the end of their summer seasons in the Mediterranean".

According to the statistics of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, the city closed 2023 with the registration of 504,805 cruise passengers, a figure that is expected to be greatly exceeded at the end of the current year, specifically with more than 600,000 cruise passengers.

In addition, the capital of Lanzarote will premiere in January the new passenger station on the Naos dock. This month the other station located on the Los Mármoles dock came into service.

According to the Councilor for Commerce and Tourism, Eli Merino, cruise tourism activates local employment in the hospitality, commerce, transportation and tourism sectors. In fact, Merino attributes to this phenomenon the growth of registrations in the Social Security of Arrecife between January and October, specifically 2,000 new contributors to the Social Security.

According to the Authority's forecasts, the call of 16 large cruise ships is expected between this Monday, 25th and Sunday, December 1st, with about 40,000 international passengers.
