Rental demand in Arrecife triples that of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

And that's because in the capital of the province, demand has multiplied by seven since before the pandemic

At the end of 2019, each advertisement for rental housing in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria received an average of interest from five families, while five years later it is 35 per advertisement.

In percentage terms, this represents a growth of 551%, according to data from the Idealista.com real estate portal, which has published a study on provincial capitals.

The study does not include Arrecife, but Idealista already revealed in June of last year that each advertisement for a rental apartment in the capital of Lanzarote received 126 contacts, the highest number in all of Spain.

Thus, each advertisement in Arrecife has 3.6 times more interested people than an equivalent advertisement in the capital of the province.

The Idealista study of provincial capitals also reveals that in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, each advertiser was contacted by nine families at the end of 2019, while currently it amounts to 45 contacts, which is equivalent to an increase of 422%.

At the national level, the enormous reduction in the supply of rental housing has caused the number of families competing for each home to increase from seven interested contacts in the fourth quarter of 2019 to 30 at present.

Among the major markets, Bilbao is the city where competition has grown the most, by 523%. It is followed by Palma (495%), Barcelona (478%), Malaga (437%), Seville (411%), San Sebastian (358%), Alicante (339%) and Madrid (307%).

Valencia is in last position among the major markets with an increase lower than that recorded at the national level: 293%.

Even so, the greatest intensification of competition for a home has been recorded in Zamora (810%), followed by Burgos (808%), Ávila (799%), Tarragona (774%), Lleida (703%), Oviedo (671%) and Palencia (601%), the only ones with an increase greater than 600%.

On the opposite side are the cities of Cádiz (176%), Pamplona (223%), Pontevedra (231%), Murcia (237%), Salamanca (241%) and Almería (258%).
