The City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has increased the amounts of the municipal housing rental aid, going from 520 to 750 euros; the maximum monthly cost to access these subsidies, setting the rent at 750 instead of 650 euros, and the maximum income threshold for beneficiaries.

The City Council has made these modifications to these aids, aimed at addressing situations of social need, preventing exclusion processes, and avoiding the loss of habitual housing, as well as covering, in justified cases, temporary accommodation needs, after having opened the application period for them on January 15, and maintains the initial budget at 1.5 million euros, it reported this Monday in a statement.

In the statement, the City Council indicated that it has carried out this update "with the aim of reinforcing the protection of people and cohabiting units with fewer resources and adapting this support line to the evolution of the housing market."

With these modifications, the maximum income threshold for beneficiaries will be set at double the current monthly IPREM to 2.5 times this indicator, which represents an increase of 25% in the limit for accessing aid.

Regarding the monthly rent caps, in the general regime the limit goes from 650 euros to 750 euros (+15.38%) and, in the case of large families or people with reduced mobility who need adapted housing, the cap is raised from 750 euros to 900 euros per month (+20%).

The maximum amount of subsidies, which can reach up to 80% of the monthly rent, is increased from 520 to 750 (+44.23%) and, for exceptional cases - which require a prior motivated social report - it may cover 100% of the rental cost, going from 600 to 750 euros (+25%).

These aids are granted by way of direct award from the municipal budget, and the payment of the aid may be made directly to the beneficiary or indirectly to the property owner by the competent body of the City Council.

People registered and residing in the municipality of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for at least the two years immediately preceding the application, provided they lack sufficient economic resources to pay the rent for their habitual dwelling, may benefit from these aids.

This requirement will not be applicable in the case of returning emigrants who prove their situation in accordance with the regulatory bases.

The applicant must be the holder of the contract of lease, in accordance with the Urban Leases Law, and the dwelling must constitute their habitual and permanent residence.

Subleases, dwellings intended for uses other than residential, and situations where there is a first or second-degree kinship between the lessor and the lessee are excluded, nor may those who receive other subsidies of the same nature and purpose access these aids.

The initial duration of the aid will be, as a general rule, six months, with the possibility of extensions up to a maximum of 24 months, and up to 36 months in situations of extreme need duly accredited.

Applications may be submitted electronically through the municipal Electronic Office or in person at the General Registry of the City Council until April 30, without prejudice to them being processed throughout the year in situations of accredited urgency.

All information on requirements, documentation, and application procedure can be consulted on the municipal website.
