One in five people looking to rent a home in the Canary Islands is foreign, according to a report by the real estate portal Idealista.
Specifically, in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 21.9%, and in Las Palmas, 19.2%, the fourth and fifth highest percentage of foreign demand for residential rentals in all of Spain.
The Balearic Islands lead this ranking, with 29.1% of international demand registered on the Idealista portal, followed by Alicante (27.4%) and Malaga (25.7%).
In the case of the Canary Islands, Germans are the most likely to rent a home, ahead of Italians and British.
The majority of visits from abroad in Valencia, Madrid or Seville were received from the United States, between 13% and 14%, while in Barcelona they were the second, with 10%, only behind the French (11%).
Among the other prominent nationalities in the rest of the provinces, the interest of the Portuguese in their border areas can be seen, leading visits in Badajoz (40%), Huelva (27%), Pontevedra (22%), and Ourense (15%).
Andorra leads the interest in renting in Lleida (18%), while Brazil takes the lead with 10% of foreign demand in Valladolid.
Visits from Latin American countries, such as those from Argentina, Venezuela, Colombia or Cuba, are in the top positions in inland provinces such as Guadalajara, Toledo, Segovia or Ávila.
