The number of mortgages on homes in the Canary Islands last May rose to 1,335, 53.3% more than last year, according to data provided by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
Its average amount increased by 10.8% from 124,484 in May 2024 to a total of 139,580 euros at present.
At the national level, 42,274 mortgages were established, 54.4% more than in May 2024. The average amount of these operations was 158,153 euros, with an increase of 12.7%.
The communities with the highest annual variation rates in the number of mortgages on homes in May were Galicia (116.0%), La Rioja (100.0%) and Cantabria (92.8%).
For their part, those with the smallest increases were Catalonia (30.9%), Illes Balears (34.6%) and Aragón (34.7%).
For mortgages constituted on homes, the average interest rate was 2.91% and the average term was 25 years. 30.1% of mortgages on homes were constituted at a variable rate and 69.9% at a fixed rate.
The average interest rate at the beginning was 2.78% for mortgages on homes at a variable rate and 2.97% for those at a fixed rate.
