Lanzarote has become the Spanish destination with the greatest tourism recovery in terms of beach home reservations, as the island has managed to go from having forecasts of 51.2% occupancy in August 2021 to 75.8% this year, according to a study by Rentalia, Idealista's vacation platform.
79.9% of Spanish tourist homes located less than 15 kilometers from a beach are already reserved for the eighth month of the year, 13 points more than the forecasts for the same month in 2021, when an occupancy of 66.9% was estimated.
The coastal houses of Castellón are also in line with this recovery, going from 42.7% to 62.9%, Barcelona (from 55% to 74.8%), Mallorca (from 77.6% to 97%), Tarragona (from 66.9% to 86.3%), Málaga (from 69.9% to 87.7%), Tenerife (from 50.1% to 67.3%), Girona (from 68.5% to 85.6%) and Gran Canaria (from 39.3% to 56.1%).
However, coastal occupancy does not increase in all corners of Spain equally, and even decreases in one specific case, such as Cantabria, going from 74.7% last year to 68.1% this year.
The smallest increases have occurred in A Coruña (from 68.6% to 69%), Asturias (from 73% to 73%), Cádiz (from 77.7% to 79.5%), Huelva (from 47% to 50%), Almería (from 70.3% to 73.6%), Pontevedra (from 67.2% to 72%) and Menorca (from 81.2% to 88%).
Lanzarote remains below the national average in terms of occupancy for August
However, Lanzarote is far from being the Spanish destination with the highest occupancy for the month of August, since with 75.8% it is even below the national average.
Specifically, Mallorca is crowned as the most difficult destination to get a rental in this high season, since it occupies the first place with 97% of tourist homes located less than 15 kilometers from an occupied beach.
It is followed by Menorca, with an occupancy level of 88%, Málaga (87.7%), Alicante (86.9%), Tarragona (86.3%) and Girona (85.6%). Below the national average is Cádiz (79.5%), Valencia (77.3%), Barcelona (74.8%), Asturias (74%), Almería (73.6%), Murcia (73.2%) and Pontevedra (72%).
For those latecomers who are still considering where to go this August, the destinations with the most free coastal accommodations are Huelva (50%), Gran Canaria (56.1%), Castellón (62.9%), Tenerife (67.3%), Cantabria (68.1%) and A Coruña (69%).
