PLENO ORDINARIO CABILDO DE LANZAROTE (5)ee

The Plenary of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, held this Friday, has approved the free transfer to the Canary Housing Institute (ICAVI) of three plots of island ownership, intended for the construction of publicly promoted protected housing, in a decision that "reinforces the island strategy to increase the public housing stock and respond to the growing residential demand on the island".

The plots, one located in the municipality of Yaiza and two in Arrecife, have been declared suitable for development as protected housing and will allow the ICAVI to advance in the planning and execution of new public housing developments in Lanzarote.

Specifically, the plenary agreement contemplates the transfer of a plot located in the town of Uga, in the municipality of Yaiza, bounded by La Revuelta, El Traspiés, La Brega, and Joaquín Rodríguez streets, with a **cadastral area of 4,714 square meters**, intended for the promotion of public housing.

Likewise, a plot located in the municipality of Arrecife, at Vicente Vila González street number 31, which has a registered area of 2,334 square meters, is ceded, as well as a second plot also in Arrecife, located between Apolo, Doctor Gómez Ulla, and Vicente Vila González streets, with a total registered area of 2,923 square meters, both considered suitable for the construction of protected housing.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, has highlighted that “this decision represents a great step forward in allocating public land for housing and thus responding to one of the main demands of the citizenry”. “Thanks to an investment of more than 6 million euros by the Cabildo,” Betancort points out, “we are taking a decisive step so that many families and young people on our island can access decent and affordable housing”.

For his part, the island councilor for Housing, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, stressed during the plenary session that the transfer of these plots "allows the Canary Islands Housing Institute to have final land available to move forward more agilely in the planning of new public housing." "It is a key measure to strengthen affordable housing and offer real solutions to the people and families who need it most," he states.

Assignment of 42 protected homes in Playa Blanca

In the same plenary session, the Lanzarote Island Council also approved the free transfer of ownership of the 42 protected homes located in Playa Blanca, in the municipality of Yaiza, to the Canary Islands Housing Institute, thus complying with the provisions of the Specific Cooperation Agreement signed between the island Corporation and the Government of the Canary Islands

With this agreement, the ICAVI assumes the ownership, management, conservation, maintenance, and allocation of these homes, which will be intended for affordable rental, guaranteeing specialized management in accordance with current regulations on protected housing.

According to Miguel Ángel Jiménez, the plenary approval "was an essential step to close a rigorous administrative procedure and provide full legal certainty to the operation." "Direct management by the ICAVI also guarantees a transparent awarding system in accordance with the established social criteria," he states. Finally, President Oswaldo Betancort points out that "both agreements reflect a way of governing based on management, planning, cooperation, and the fulfillment of acquired commitments, also being the first Cabildo in the Canary Islands to allocate housing for affordable rental for families and workers on our island."
