The Council of Ministers will approve this Tuesday a plan to mobilize thousands of homes of the Asset Management Company from Banking Restructuring (Sareb), also known as the bad bank, for affordable rent.
The details are not yet known, but what is known is that in Lanzarote, Sareb has a total of 81 real estate properties of housing, which the Government could offer to citizens with official protection rents. The search engine of this entity only allows you to see how many properties there are in a territory. To see the details of each property, it refers to the real estate agencies authorized to do so.
Ekonomus has investigated in several of the portals of the authorized real estate agencies and has found that some of the Sareb properties in Lanzarote are apartments or villas, although there are also blocks of apartments and new construction developments.
Most properties are in Arrecife
The Government's objective is for the public housing stock in Spain to reach 20% of the total, although it has not set a date on the horizon. Right now it represents 3%, when the EU average is 9%.
Most of Sareb's properties in Lanzarote are in Arrecife, where 70 of them are located. The real estate company Aliseda, one of the companies that manage Sareb's properties, advertises, for example, several apartments in a building on Chimia street in the capital of Lanzarote. It also advertises a villa on Jerez street.
According to the Sareb search engine, the municipalities of San Bartolomé, Tías and Yaiza have 3 properties in their territory each, while in Teguise there are 2.
An example of new construction about to be completed is a development of 31 single-family homes located in Yaiza, which is managed by the real estate company Grupo Domo. The houses are on two floors with 3 bedrooms, two bathrooms and open parking on the surface.
There will be 50,000 homes throughout Spain
Throughout Spain, the government plans to introduce up to 50,000 homes through Sareb with affordable rents. A total of 21,000 homes will be made available to municipalities and autonomous communities.
In addition, the Executive has reported that it will promote social rental with the 14,000 homes already inhabited in that park and will promote the construction of up to 15,000 public homes on available land of Sareb.
