The cheapest Canary Islands municipality to rent a home is Arucas, in Gran Canaria, where the square meter stands at 10.2 euros, 36% cheaper than the average for the autonomous community.
In the whole of Spain, Baeza, in the province of Jaén, is the cheapest municipality to rent a home. In the Jaén town, renting a flat costs almost half as much as in the cheapest municipality in the Canary Islands. It is 5.2 euros per month for each square meter on average, according to a study carried out by idealista, the leading real estate marketplace in Southern Europe, based on its price report for the second quarter of 2026.
All other municipalities on the list have higher prices. With a price of 6.5 euros/m² are four municipalities: Almendralejo (Badajoz), Úbeda (Jaén), Lucena (Córdoba), and Puertollano (Ciudad Real). They are followed by Almansa (Albacete), with 6.6 euros/m², and Linares (Jaén), with 6.7 euros/m².
Above 6.7 euros/m² are Plasencia (Cáceres) and Ponferrada (León), both with 6.9 euros/m²; Valdepeñas (Ciudad Real) and Ontinyent (Valencia), with 7.1 euros/m²; Lorca (Murcia), with 7.2 euros/m²; Ogíjares (Granada), with 7.3 euros/m²; Mérida (Badajoz) and Alcantarilla (Murcia), with 7.4 euros/m²; and Molina de Segura (Murcia), with 7.5 euros/m².
The last seven municipalities in the ranking are Motril (Granada) and La Zubia (Granada), with 7.6 euros/m²; Calatayud (Zaragoza), Narón (A Coruña), Ronda (Málaga), and Elda (Alicante), with 7.7 euros/m²; and Alcázar de San Juan (Ciudad Real), Benicarló (Castellón), and Almazora/Almassora (Castellón), with 7.9 euros/m².
In all cases, the difference between the prices in these municipalities and those in their respective autonomous communities is notable. The biggest jump is in Baeza, which is 61.7% cheaper than the average price in Andalusia, followed by Úbeda and Lucena, also compared to Andalusia (-52.0% in both cases). On the other hand, the smallest jump is recorded in Mérida compared to Extremadura (-3.4%), and in Plasencia and Alcázar de San Juan compared to their respective autonomous communities (-10.1% in both cases).
