The Minister of Public Works, Housing and Mobility, Pablo Rodríguez, has requested this Tuesday a modification of the law on public sector contracts to speed up housing construction.
He did so in the plenary session of the Parliament of the Canary Islands in response to a question from the socialist deputy Marcos Bergaz about the criteria that the regional government is applying to accelerate tenders for social housing.
Rodríguez indicated that "the great advantage" of the public sector contracts law through the urgent processing of projects is that the period for bidders to submit offers in the tender is reduced from 30 to 15 days, but then if an appeal is filed, it takes "two, three months to resolve it" and the housing emergency declared in the Canary Islands cannot intervene there.
He added that the aforementioned law, which is of state scope, contemplates the same procedure for tendering housing as for a parking space, a sports center or a garden, and has called for "an extraordinary process" for the first of these cases.
Marcos Bergaz (PSOE) urged the minister to comply with the housing decree-law and with the housing emergency declared by the Government of the Canary Islands, which gives preference to social housing files and that "it be clarified" so that the projects of ICAVI and VISOCAN are all processed through the urgent route.
Pablo Rodríguez replied that to date, the construction of so much public housing had not been launched as now, "more than 2,000," precisely because the Canary Islands executive has given it priority.
