The crimes of trespassing and housing usurpation in Spain have decreased by 9.4% in 2025, with 14,875 cases registered by the State Security Forces and Corps, and Catalonia remains the community where the most cases have been registered (5,913), although they have also fallen by 15.6%, a decrease that in the Canary Islands has been 10.1%.
This is reflected in the Statistical Portal of Criminality of the Ministry of the Interior, which EFE has accessed, indicating that illegal housing occupations have gone from 16,426 in 2024 to 14,875 last year.
The data does not differentiate between home invasions (when a primary residence is occupied, whether it is a first or second home) or usurpations (occupations of properties owned by banks or empty homes).
Likewise, the Ministry of the Interior recalls that the most serious cases of home invasion are the least in Spain and that those of usurpation are mostly of empty homes.
In this way, Catalonia, one of the four most populous communities in Spain along with Andalusia, Madrid, and the Valencian Community, will account for nearly 40% of the complaints registered throughout the territory.
After this region, Andalusia is listed with 1,909 complaints - although there the figures fell by 13.5% from one year to another -, the Valencian Community with 1,805 - with an increase of 2.1% compared to 2024 - and the Community of Madrid with 1,269, a region where they decreased by 12.5%.
In addition to Catalonia, Andalusia, and Madrid, crimes of home invasion and usurpation have decreased in Balearic Islands (15.7% less, going from 514 to 433); Canary Islands (10.1%, going from 663 to 596); Castilla - La Mancha (6.7% less); Murcia (11.2% less); and La Rioja (17% less).
On the other hand, these crimes have increased - in addition to the Valencian Community - in Aragon (9.2% more); Asturias (28%); Cantabria (11.3%); Castilla y León (5.8%); Extremadura (29.6%); Galicia (12.6%); Navarra (14.2%); Basque Country (3%); Ceuta (26.3%) and Melilla (26.6%).
Since 2014, the complaints for crimes of trespassing and property usurpation registered by the different police forces and Guardia Civil have gone from 10,084 to 14,875 in 2025 -latest published data-, that is 32% more.
