With the first lights of the month of September comes the end of the 2024 harvest for Bodega La Geria, which has announced a collection 35% lower than last year, which anticipates a scarce harvest for all the wineries on the island.
For Alejandro Besay Felipe Muñoz, winemaker at Bodegas La Geria, “2024 has been a year of low production, with little rain, a very warm winter and the vineyard, in the end, there are years when it needs to rest and produce less, but, undoubtedly, those qualities of concentration are noticeable because when giving few bunches the quality ends up being very good, with very rich, very concentrated aromas and a very expressive and mineral flavor".
The Director of the winery, Ramón Melián, attended the collection of those last shipments of grapes and confirmed that “we are finishing the harvest of this 2024 receiving malvasía, moscatel as well as black and white listán".
"We can already advance a decrease of 35% compared to the kilos of last year's harvest with a total this year reaching one hundred and thirty thousand kilos. The grape has been paid again at a historical price, around 3.5 euros on average", explained Melián.
"It has been a short harvest because it has practically not rained in winter but the winery has sufficient stock because the last harvest was important and quite a few kilos of grapes were collected. In total we have attended the production of one hundred
sixty-three winegrowers belonging to the DO Lanzarote”, concludes Ramón Melián.
Melián also thanked on behalf of the winery “all the winegrowers who work so hard to bring a grape, in greater or lesser quantity, but of such quality that ensures that Bodega La Geria remains at unbeatable levels of quality”.
