Canary Islands will be present at the 39th edition of the Salón Gourmets 2026 through a stand financed by the Government of the Canary Islands in which will be represented the Cabildo de Lanzarote and the other six Island Councils and companies from the agri-food sector of the islands to promote their delicatessen productions at this event, which will be held from April 13 to 16 at IFEMA, in Madrid.
The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty of the Canarian Executive, Narvay Quintero, will participate in the inauguration of the event alongside Minister Luis Planas, whose previous edition had more than 117,000 attendees, 19,000 of them foreigners from 90 countries.
With more than 2000 products on display and a business volume equivalent to 313 million euros, in addition to 43 million in valuation in media impact, the event stands as a world reference in quality food and beverages with a professional character. In this regard, the head of the area has pointed out that Gourmets “offers a unique opportunity to make visible the agri-food production of the archipelago and encourage its commercialization, highlighting the quality, diversity, and uniqueness of our elaborations.”
To showcase the excellences of Canarian agri-food production, the Canarian Institute of Agri-food Quality, with the collaboration of public companies GMR Canarias and Proexca, has arranged a 528 square meter stand that will host presentations, tastings, product valorization workshops and training activities, and which will also feature a space for holding professional meetings by the participating exhibitors.
In this regard, the general director of the ICCA, Luis Arráez Guadalupe, has explained that that “among the products promoted in this edition are wines, cheeses, gofios, sea salts, almogrotes, extra virgin olive oils, vinegars, jams, sweets, aloe vera, and dehydrated fruit, among other products, which open the doors to the gastronomic culture of our islands to the rest of the world and position the primary and agri-food sector as tourist assets of the Canary Islands”.
One of the novelties of this edition is the celebration of the Mexican Taco Championship “Tacomanía”, a competition with professional chefs in which the best taco made with Canarian avocado will be awarded, a product that since 2025 has the differentiated quality seal of Protected Geographical Indication (PGI).
In addition, within the framework of this initiative sponsored by the ICCA, outreach actions will be developed on the organoleptic properties of the fruit and on the process and the value of registering the production as a PGI, as well as about twenty workshops to enhance the value of different Canarian products coordinated by the ICCA and organized by the island corporations, Regulatory Councils and other entities.
The fair will also host the celebration, on Tuesday 14, of “Canary Islands Day” with a program aimed at highlighting the uniqueness of local product through demonstrations of live cooking with fishing species Canarian as protagonists, commented wine tastings and gastronomic experiences with pairings of island elaborations, coordinated by GMR Canarias and the General Directorate of Fisheries with the support of ICCA, Saborea Lanzarote and the Regulatory Council of Wines of Lanzarote.
