The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through its president and Minister of Tourism, Oswaldo Betancort, publicly congratulates Bodegas El Grifo for the distinction received at the Canary Islands Tourism Awards 2025, where the oldest winery in the Canary Islands and one of the ten oldest in Spain was awarded the Award for Tourist Excellence.

This recognition, granted by the Government of the Canary Islands in an event held at the Teatro Circo de Marte, in La Palma, highlights the trajectory of more than 250 years of a winery that has known how to combine tradition and innovation, becoming an emblem of the cultural, wine and tourist identity of Lanzarote.

“El Grifo is a living symbol of Lanzarote and its people. This award for Tourist Excellence recognizes not only the wine tradition of the winery, but also the importance of a sector that gives character and authenticity to our island. For Lanzarote, it is a pride that one of its most emblematic institutions is recognized, capable of combining history, innovation and sustainability in a unique landscape such as La Geria”, said the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort.

“Furthermore, with this recognition of Bodegas El Grifo, Lanzarote once again demonstrates that its strength as a destination comes from the link between the land, the people and the ability to project a model based on authenticity, quality and sustainability to the world”, added the president.

“The history of El Grifo and its management model are a reference of how local product, tradition and innovation can go hand in hand with tourism promotion. This award reinforces the strategy of linking Lanzarote to the authenticity of its territory and the quality of its wine tourism offer”, said Héctor Fernández, CEO of SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote.
