Ten wineries from Lanzarote participate in Barcelona Wine Week

A rabbit winery, another from Tenerife, and a third from La Gomera will carry out the tastings on February 4 to show the excellence of Canarian wines

A total of 31 wineries from nine Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) wines from the archipelago are participating until February 4 in the Barcelona Wine Week (BWW) 2026 fair, to which 29 of them attend under the support of the Canary Institute of Agri-food Quality (ICCA) and Proexca in an action framed within the external promotion policy of local productions developed by the Government of the Canary IslandsOn today's opening day, Monday, the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty of the Government of the Canary Islands, Narvay Quintero, visited together with the director of ICCA, Luis Arráez Guadalupe, the stands of the wines that, in this 2026 edition, represent the Canary Islands in the Montjuic Exhibition Center, where more than 1,350 wineries will gather to exhibit their productions to more than 26,000 visitors, including nearly 900 international buyers

Hand in hand with the Canarian Executive, Canarian productions from Bodegas El Sitio, Piedra Fluida and Bodegas Atrevino (DOP Islas Canarias); Bodega Olivina, Martinón, Jable de Tao, Los Bermejos, La Geria, Vulcano, El Grifo, Erupción, Titerok-Akaet, Althay (DOP Lanzarote); Vinos Vega Norte, Llanos Negros and Mil7ochentaynueve (DOP La Palma); Bodegas Arautava, Tafuriaste, Vinos Atlante, 300 Líos Volcanic Grapes and La Haya (DOP Valle de La Orotava); Altos de Chipude (DOP La Gomera); Ocampo, Loher, Tierra Fundida and Ambora (DOP Tacoronte-Acentejo); Bien de Altura and Vandama (DOP Gran Canaria); and Cumbres de Abona (DOP Abona) meet at this professional event

Likewise, also present in this edition of the BWW are the wineries Borja Pérez (DOP Ycoden Daute Isora) and Suertes del Marqués (DOP La Orotava)The counselor Narvay Quintero celebrated the "increase in participation since the first edition of the fair, in 2020, with a dozen wineries, and the growing interest of Canary winemakers in taking advantage, with the regional Government, of this showcase in which they exhibit the quality and uniqueness of our productions to international operators and new business avenues are opened”.In this regard, the **Canary Institute of Agri-food Quality has financed and managed the exhibition space**, the registration of the Canary wineries and the transport to the Catalan city of the participating wines in collaboration with Proexca, which, as a public company of the Canary Executive dedicated to external promotion in the international and peninsular market, supports the commercial growth of the Archipelago's companiesBWW also stands out as a forum for showcasing innovations and opportunities in the wine sector through a program with more than 60 activities, such as tastings, lectures, and round tables in which dominant trends in international markets are analyzed“In this edition, initiatives related to **wine tourism** are of particular interest to the Canary Islands wineries and professionals in the wine sector, which last week was recognized by the regional government as a regulated tourist activity to provide legal certainty to companies and professionals in a determined commitment to develop its potential to generate complementary income, local employment, contribute to the conservation of agricultural landscapes and retain population in rural municipalities,” Quintero said.For his part, the director of the ICCA highlighted that wines from organic farming, those with lower alcohol content, white and sparkling wines, those made with traditional varieties, and those that stand out for their authentic character and tell a story, "areas in which Canarian viticulture has great weight," are a clear trend in the market

 

Tasting of the Erupción winery

In this context, the ICCA has organized the tasting ‘A wine, a story’, which will be led by the winemaker and vice-president of the Center for Research, Study, Safeguarding, Coordination and Valorization of Mountain Viticulture (CERVIM), Manuel Capote. In this proposal, which will take place on the 4th, at 10:30 AM, **three Canarian wineries** will participate, showcasing the excellence of wine made by family businesses that represent continuous work, rootedness in the territory, and the transmission of winemaking knowledge over several generations.

On behalf of Lanzarote, the tasting will include creations from Bodega Erupción, a winemaking project that reflects the historical adaptation of viticulture to an extreme and unique volcanic environment. The session will feature the wines Chinija Salvaje, 100% Volcanic Malvasia from 2024, with nine months of aging on lees, and Milagro de Magmasía Selección 22, made with a blend of 80% Volcanic Malvasia, 10% Diego, and 10% Moscatel, with 34 months of aging on lees.

On behalf of Tenerife the Bodega Comarcal Valle de Güímar will participate, as a benchmark for collective work and generational continuity in island viticulture. During the activity, Pico Tinto 2024 and Brumas de Ayosa Brut Nature Espumoso 2022 will be tasted, wines that reflect both tradition and innovation within the cooperative project.

Bodega Montoro, from the island of La Gomera, will complete this experience with two creations based on the native Forastera Gomera variety, which highlight the uniqueness and authenticity of the island's vineyard.
