The Protected Designation of Origin Vinos de Lanzarote adds a new international recognition with the Gold Medal obtained by Timanfaya Dulce Selección 1999, from Bodegas Timanfaya, at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (CMB) 2026. The award was given in the sweet and fortified wines session, held from October 9 to 11 in Thuir (France).
The jury awarded 134 medals among the 417 wines presented, from nearly 30 countries. Spain won ten medals among the 25 registered entries, one of them for the wine from Bodegas Timanfaya.
The DOP Vinos de Lanzarote also obtained two distinctions CMB Merit 2026: one for Timanfaya Dulce Natural Selección 2018, from Bodegas Timanfaya, and another for Vulcano Dolce Moscatel 2017, from Bodega Vulcano de Lanzarote. This seal recognizes the quality of wines that achieve high scores and are immediately below the threshold for medals, the awarding of which is limited to 33% of participants.
These results are added to the recognitions obtained by the designation this year in the white and red wines session, held in May in Yerevan (Armenia). In that competition, three entries from Bodegas Martinón received the CMB Merit 2026 distinction: Martinón Blanco Seco 2025, Martinón Afrutado 2025, and Martinón Blanc de Noirs 2024.
The president of the Regulatory Council, Jorge Rodríguez, has highlighted that "this medal recognizes the work of Bodegas Timanfaya and the quality of Lanzarote's sweet wines".
Founded in 1994, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles evaluates wines from all over the world each year through blind tastings conducted by industry professionals. The competition is structured into four sessions, according to the type of wine, which are held at different venues throughout the year.
