The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Canary Institute of Agri-food Quality (ICCA), has published the Resolution granting the subsidies of the Strategic Plan for the Common Agricultural Policy (PEPAC) aimed at cooperation for the promotion of agricultural and food products under quality schemes.
This call is endowed with 290,862.39 euros, which are granted to a total of 11 beneficiary entities in the Archipelago. One of them is the Regulatory Council of Lanzarote Wines, which receives 75,000 euros, the largest allocation among the beneficiary entities in the Canary Islands.
The rest of the entities in the Canary Islands are the Association of Winegrowers and Winemakers of the Canary Islands AVIBO (61,735.50 euros), the Regulatory Council of the D.O. Tacoronte Acentejo (41,160.53 euros), the Regulatory Council of the D.O. Ycoden-Daute-Isora (30,090.00 euros), the Regulatory Council D.O. Abona (25,840.29 euros), the Regulatory Council of the D.O. Valle de la Orotava (24,674.56 euros), the Regulatory Council of the D.O. Vinos de La Gomera (11,250.00 euros), the Association of Beekeepers of Tenerife (9,023.34 euros), the Regulatory Council of the Specific Designation El Hierro (5,393.92 euros), the Regulatory Council of the D.O. Vinos de Gran Canaria (4,277.00 euros) and the Regulatory Council Valle de Güímar (2,417.25 euros).
The Director General of the Canary Institute of Agri-food Quality, Luis Arráez Guadalupe, pointed out that through this measure, added value is conferred on agri-food products covered by quality schemes and their marketing possibilities are improved, which increases the profitability of the farms and strengthens the productive fabric in the rural area, while promoting greater consumer awareness of the differential characteristics of these products and favoring their penetration in different markets.
Specifically, these subsidies, co-financed by the European Union from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), by the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands through the ICCA, and by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, finance 75% of the expenses derived from cooperation actions to promote the dissemination of the differentiated characteristics of products made in accordance with the quality schemes set out in article 24 of Law 6/2019, of April 9, on Agri-food Quality.
Among the eligible activities are included the organization or assistance to seminars, courses, conferences, informational days, workshops, and promotional events, as well as tastings, samplings, or presentations of quality products. In addition, activities for disseminating scientific and technical requirements, advertising in media or on the internet, development of informative material, creation of web pages, among others, are contemplated.
