The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty of the Government of the Canary Islands, Narvay Quintero, highlighted "the great success achieved by Canarian wine production, as out of the eleven wines that competed in the event, a total of ten have won medals in their different categories”.

A masterclass on Canarian wine

The event also hosted various educational sessions aimed at delving into the unique characteristics of wines from around the world. In this context, Canary Islands participated with a masterclass dedicated to showcasing the singularities of the Archipelago's wine production, led by the head of the Oenological Station of the Canary Institute of Agrifood Quality, an entity attached to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty of the Government of the Canary Islands, José Luis González González, and the vice-president of CERVIM, Manuel Capote.

The session focused on highlighting the varietal richness, history, and unique characteristics conferred by volcanic soils and extreme cultivation conditions to Canarian wines, aspects that sparked the interest of professionals specialized in the sector.

This competition was born with the objective of promoting wine as a territorial value closely linked to the development of rural areas. Organized by the association Cittá del Vino, which is part of the European Network of Wine Cities, it has been held since 2001 and brings together wine producers and territories from different countries each year.

Currently, this entity, which was founded in 1987 as a response from public administrations to address the crisis that had hit the sector at the time, has 500 members from a network of municipalities, provinces, wine routes, and other communities dedicated to viticulture.
