The winemaker from Lanzarote, **Amor López**, has been honored with the **Isabel Mijares award** in the **'New generation'** category as promoter of **Bodega Erupción** (DOP Lanzarote) founded in May 2021 in the town of **Tao**, an entrepreneurial project in which "she combines the knowledge of more than half a century of artisanal family production with an innovative vision of the sector to produce unique author wines".
Through artisanal production processes with own vineyards of organic production, Erupción elaborates wines of great quality awarded in diverse contests and competitions, among them the “Mondial des Vins Extrêmes” organized by the Center of Investigation, Studies, Protection, Coordination and Valorization of Mountain Viticulture (CERVIM), where the wines Milagro de Magmasía Colección 2022 and Luz de Obsidiana 2022, received a great gold medal in 2024, as well as a gold medal in last year's edition for Chinija Salvaje 2024 and Milagro de Magmasía 2022.
After receiving this distinction at the award ceremony held during the Barcelona Wine Week celebration, López stated that "this award is an enormous satisfaction and a recognition of constant work and commitment to a very specific way of understanding wine".
"I value it as a backing for a project that is born from respect for the territory and volcanic identity, but also from a contemporary and open-minded view of the future”. Likewise, he added, “this award means a lot to me, because it represents an impetus and a confirmation that the path we are taking, with enthusiasm, rigor, and commitment, makes sense within the sector; that the new generation is awarded is also a very positive sign for the future of wine and encourages me to continue betting on new ideas and excellence”, he explained.
These awards, granted by the professional collective Women of Wine in the context of the Barcelona Wine Week, were born with the objective of recognizing the female contribution and leadership in the field of viticulture and oenology through the homage to the career and legacy of Isabel Mijares
From 2025, this association of women farmers, producers, oenologists, sommeliers and journalists in the wine sector grants these awards as recognition of María Isabel Mijares García-Pelayo (Mérida 1942-Madrid 2024), a Spanish oenologist considered a pioneer of the profession and the first woman to manage a winery and a Wine Regulatory Council -DOP Valdepeñas- in our country. In this second edition, the Isabel Mijares Awards have also recognized in their different sections Carmen Garrobo, from the Spanish School of Tasting (Madrid), in the Sommelier category; Isabel Vázquez, from Perelada, as Wine Saleswoman; Marta Casas, from Parés Baltà (DO Penedès), as Viticulturist; Carme Ruscalleda, in the Chef Wine Lover category; Amaia Soto, founder of The Way We Wine Now, in the Communication and Dissemination category; María del Yerro, from Bodega Alonso del Yerro (DO Ribera del Duero), as Winery Director; Maite Calvo, from Bodegas Bilbaínas (DOCa Rioja), as Winemaker; Carmen Bengoechea, from Vivanco, in Wine Tourism; Adriana Ochoa, from Bodegas Ochoa (DO Navarra), in Wine Research; and Jancis Robinson MW, as Woman of the Year
