The palm company Barefoot Canarias has been identified as a success story through ADER La Palma by the Red CIDE, an initiative of the Ministry of Universities, Science, Innovation and Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands, promoted through the Canary Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI), and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, with a co-financing rate of 85% within the framework of the ERDF Canarias 2021-2027 Program.

With its own brand VOLKAN, Barefoot Canarias combines design, biomechanics, innovation in materials, and connection with the territory to develop its own product with a vocation for growth beyond the islands.

Support from Red CIDE

In its innovation process, Barefoot Canarias has received specialized public advice, information, and guidance on various support instruments for business growth and innovation.

According to its promoters, Javier Salinero and Enrique Viña, this support has allowed them to understand the necessary steps to develop their project and access internationalization programs such as Canarias Aporta and Canarias Expande, as well as business training and support lines for incorporating innovative personnel through Diginnova and for company growth.

Red CIDE offers free advice to companies and entrepreneurs to promote innovation and facilitate access to financing, support services, and cooperation opportunities.

From La Palma to the international market

Barefoot Canarias is currently working on the expansion of VOLKAN outside the Canary Islands. Among its next objectives are the development of a website and a logistics center in the Peninsula to serve the European market, as well as the analysis of internationalization opportunities towards Latin America, the United States, and the Persian Gulf countries.

For the company's promoters, innovation is also an opportunity for companies in the smaller islands. “It is important that companies in the smaller islands do not give up on innovating due to being in an island territory,” state Javier Salinero and Enrique Viña.

The founders of Barefoot Canarias also highlight the importance of protecting their own developments and having specialized support to access training, financing, and internationalization programs.
