The candidacies for the new Canary Seal for Social, Business Responsibility and Sustainability of the Government of the Canary Islands may be submitted until next July 20 by public administrations, corporations, associations and entities linked to corporate social responsibility, sustainability and the social economy. Applications must be processed through the Electronic Office of the Government of the Canary Islands.

The Minister of Tourism and Employment, Jéssica de León, encourages public and private entities to submit their candidacies to "recognize and give visibility to companies, organizations and professionals who are committed to a work model that is more committed to people, the territory, the environment and the sustainable development of the Canary Islands".

With this initiative, the regional Executive complies with the Law on the Social Economy of the Canary Islands, which provides for the creation of a specific seal to promote corporate social responsibility and sustainability, with special attention to organizations that are part of the social economy.

De León highlights that "more and more companies, organizations and institutions are incorporating measures related to sustainability, equality, transparency or good governance into their activities, and we believe it is important to recognize that effort and highlight their contribution to the well-being of Canarian society".

Furthermore, she emphasizes that "corporate social responsibility not only benefits the environment, but also makes companies and organizations more competitive, innovative and prepared to face the challenges of the future".

The decree creates six modalities of recognition. Among them is the category of labor diversity and inclusion, aimed at entities that promote equal opportunities in hiring and talent management.

Initiatives that promote gender equality, facilitate work-life balance and promote professional development on equal terms will also be recognized.

Another modality distinguishes organizations that apply policies of transparency and good governance, with open, responsible and participatory management.

The seal will also reward actions aimed at environmental sustainability, such as reducing environmental impact, promoting the circular economy, or measures to address climate change.

In addition, it will recognize those who disseminate the values of corporate social responsibility and the social economy through campaigns, educational projects, alliances, or awareness-raising actions that contribute to building a more committed and supportive society.

Entities that promote decent work, with stable employment, fair and safe working conditions, equal pay, worker participation, and respect for their rights will also be distinguished.

From all the candidacies submitted, the Ministry of Tourism and Employment will select three finalists for each category through a specific jury. The distinction will be awarded each year. Starting in 2027, the deadline for submitting candidacies will be March 1st and the resolution will be issued within a maximum of three months.

Recognized entities may use this seal to certify their commitment to responsible and sustainable management and contribute to disseminating these values among Canarian society.
