Workplace accidents increase by 3.4% in the Canary Islands in the first four months

Although 2 out of 3 accidents occur in the services sector, the rate per worker is higher in construction, agriculture and industry

Canary Islands recorded 9,304 workplace accidents resulting in sick leave between January and April, which is 3.4% more compared to the same period in 2023, with the services sector leading in terms of accident rates.

The data was published this Thursday by the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC), which details that 54 of these workplace accidents in the first four months of the year were serious, and five were fatal.

The vast majority of accidents, 8,042, occurred during working hours and the remaining 1,262 occurred while traveling to or from work.

By economic sectors, agriculture accumulated 330 workplace accidents until April, industry 573, construction 1,093 and services 6,046.

The monthly incidence rate is 226.31 for accidents with sick leave during working hours and 0.14 for fatal accidents.

By economic sectors, the rate is higher in construction (460.96), followed by agriculture (420.58), industry (353.58) and services (196.56).
