Compared to ten years ago, when there were about 58,000 contributors, affiliations have increased by 38%.
Some of the tourism subsectors have seen enormous job growth in the last decade. The hotel sector is the one that has grown the most after reaching 8,055 affiliates in August 2026.

Intermediation through tour operators based on the island has stagnated after accounting for 20 workers in August 2026, an identical figure to that registered in August 2025. However, in the comparison with respect to 2016, there has been a severe contraction of 51.2%, since then there were 41 people affiliated with social security in this type of activity.
Regarding other booking services, they have experienced the sharpest year-on-year decrease among the compared activities, plummeting by almost 40% from 165 employed in August 2025 to 100 affiliates in August 2026. A decade ago there were 135 workers.
A sharp drop in employment in leisure parks and theme parks is also observed. The 140 jobs in August 2026 represent 40 fewer people affiliated with Social Security than a year ago, although they are many more than ten years ago when there were only 23 people affiliated in this economic activity.
