With 58 fewer citizens on the unemployment lists, unemployment decreases slightly in May in Lanzarote to 7,766 people, according to the Canary Islands Employment Observatory.
The 0.7% decrease registered in May partially compensates for the 99 jobs lost during the month of April on the island.
In the set of the last twelve months, unemployment has decreased in Lanzarote by 8.3%, equivalent to 707 people.
The majority of the new employees were men, whose total number of unemployed on the island stands at 3,313, while among women it amounts to 4,453 unemployed.
Unemployment decreased more among young people and among people with higher education.
In the entire Canary archipelago, unemployment is decreasing in a very similar way, it does so by 0.8%, equivalent to 1,404 fewer people on the community's unemployment lists. Currently, there are 166,064 people unemployed in the Canary Islands, 5.9% less than there were twelve months ago.
