With this initiative, work contracts will be offered to 101 unemployed people before March 1.

Meeting of the Department of Employment with the city councils

The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through its Employment Area, held a coordination meeting with the seven municipalities of the island this Monday, January 27, to address the development of municipal employment plans for the period 2024-2025. The meeting was chaired by the until yesterday Minister of Employment of the Institution, Ascensión Toledo, who highlighted "the Cabildo's commitment to job creation and improving the employability of unemployed people."

“This agreement is a key tool to combat unemployment, especially among those over 40 years of age. We want to facilitate not only a job opportunity, but also training - a novelty this year - so that the participating people acquire skills that allow them to improve their professional future,” Ascensión Toledo declared after the meeting.

Under the agreement signed last November, the Cabildo chaired by Oswaldo Betancort has allocated a total of 1,500,000 euros to subsidize employment plans in each municipality, with which work contracts will be offered to 101 people in a situation of unemployment before March 1. In addition, training sessions will be carried out in languages, digital skills and personal skills for the beneficiaries of these plans.

Distribution of funds and hiring by municipalities:

  • Arrecife: 644,550 euros are allocated for the hiring of 35 people, who will play roles such as cleaning laborers, administrative assistants, technical project engineers, technical architects, lawyers, social workers, leisure and free time monitors, among others.

  • Haría: With a subsidy of 92,242.70 euros, 7 people will be employed, mainly in maintenance and public works.

  • San Bartolomé: Will receive 180,410 euros for the hiring of 15 workers in areas such as cleaning, horticulture, painting and administration.

  • Teguise: 188,805 euros are allocated to employ 15 people, including cleaning laborers, bricklayers and administrative assistants.

  • Tías: With a budget of 165,805 euros, 12 people will be hired to carry out cleaning, construction, cultural activities and concierge work.

  • Tinajo: Will have 105,387.30 euros to employ 7 people in cleaning and construction.

  • Yaiza: Will have 122,800 euros for the hiring of 10 gardeners.

“It is our responsibility to work together with the city councils so that every euro invested translates into quality jobs that benefit our neighbors,” says Toledo, who has positively valued the inter-institutional coordination achieved to date.
