The Business Confederation of Lanzarote (CEL) highlights the positive evolution of self-employment in Lanzarote, which continues to grow and consolidate itself as a key driver of the local economy.

According to the report prepared by the CEL within the project ‘SAE, Business Advisory Service’, financed by the Cabildo of Lanzarote, in December of 2025 there are 12,520 people self-employed, which represents an increase of 475 affiliations compared to 2024 (3.9% more).

These data place Lanzarote above the Canary Islands average (2.5% increase in affiliations to the Special Regime for Self-Employed Workers), reinforcing its leadership in entrepreneurship in the archipelago.

The president of the CEL, Beatriz Salazar, emphasizes that “the increase in self-employment reflects the strength of our economy and Lanzarote's capacity to generate new opportunities”. “Every new self-employed person and every new SME directly contributes to diversifying the economy and generating quality employment,” she maintains.

Salazar details that the weight of self-employment continues to be higher in Lanzarote, reaching 18.7%, when in the whole of the archipelago it does not reach 16%.

Therefore, remember that “it is fundamental to continue supporting entrepreneurs, guaranteeing legal certainty, access to financing and advisory and training programs.”

The report reveals that the services sector was the one that increased the most in the number of self-employed, going from 9,940 affiliates in 2024 to 10,310 in 2025, with special growth in hospitality, transport and social services activities.

The hospitality industry, with 65 new registrations, was the main branch of the sector in terms of increased affiliations, followed by the 50 from transport and storage and social services activities. For its part, the construction sector on its own account registered a percentage growth greater than 6%, demonstrating an increasingly diversified and resilient economy.

Salazar highlights that “although the data is positive, we must not be complacent. The challenge now is to consolidate stable and quality employment, reduce temporary employment and improve productivity. “Public-private collaboration and the promotion of support programs for freelancers and SMEs are essential to maintain this dynamic and enhance Lanzarote's competitiveness,” he stresses.

Through initiatives such as Employability Lanzarote 2025/2026 and the Business Advisory Service (SAE), and with the collaboration of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, the CEL continues to support entrepreneurs and SMEs so that their activity translates into real employment opportunities, sustainable economic growth and social well-being on the island.

“Lanzarote has a solid and dynamic business fabric, and we must continue working so that economic growth reaches all corners of the island, generating quality employment and retaining local talent”, indicates Salazar.

Lastly, remember that the CEL “remains a very important ally for SMEs, entrepreneurs and self-employed workers” who wish to start their business on the Island, “so they can count on us to advise them and support their launch and growth with all the tools we have available for it”.
