The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Departments of Equality and Social Rights, coordinated by Myriam Barros and Isabel Martín, respectively, are promoting the ‘Employment on Wheels’ project, financed with funds from the State Pact. This initiative is aimed at improving the employability of women victims of gender violence on the island.

This project, financed by the Canary Islands Institute for Equality, will be coordinated by the ‘Nos Movemos’ Foundation and, through it, aims to provide technical training, development and learning of transversal skills that will enable participating women and their adult sons and daughters dependent on them to a competitive and quality employment in the passenger transport sector.

The Councilor for Social Rights, Isabel Martín, indicated that “the difficulties in filling professional vacancies in the transport sector determined the focus of the project, so that women can break down barriers and achieve autonomy, while satisfying the current demands of the labor market.”

Similarly, the Councilor for Equality, Myriam Barros, stressed that “knowing how to drive has been one of the milestones of feminism to achieve equality, demonstrating that driving is not just a matter for men, breaking biological myths about the capabilities of women and achieving greater independence in mobility.”

Taking into account the aforementioned needs, the contracting of the training and qualification service for obtaining technical licenses (Carnet D+CAP travelers/as) is considered ideal in order to offer an opportunity for employment and professional development for women users of the network of resources for victims of gender violence in Lanzarote.
